Construction of minus CO2 factory 002 begins in Chibi, China

Dec 4, 2023

On 7 November 2023, carbonauten GmbH started construction of the world’s largest carbonisation plant for the extraction and storage of CO2 in Chibi in the Chinese province of Hubei. Starting in early 2025, around 65,000 tonnes of biocarbons, 65,000 tonnes of pyrolysis oils and 300,000 MWh of thermal, base load-capable, renewable energy will be produced annually from 200,000 tonnes of regional waste bamboo. The technical biocarbons will be processed into up to 150,000 tonnes of ready-to-use CO2-negative materials for agriculture, construction and the polymers industry. The pyrolysis oils will become raw materials for the chemical industry.

This way, around 200,000 tonnes of CO2 are bound physically in Chibi every year. The technical biocarbons replace many fossil-based materials and energies in their applications, which increases the leverage and further reduces CO2 in the range of megatonnes.
